CLASS OF 2011
With a warm personality and pleasant voice, Cathy Blythe became a Lincoln institution with a radio career spanning almost 40 years.
Cathy was originally hired by Roger Larson as KFOR receptionist in 1972. She later became Stuart Broadcasting’s Music Director before leaving in 1981. The next year, Dick Chapin convinced Cathy she should co-host the morning show, where she spent 19 years as a team with Scott Young. Then it was ten more years with co-hosts Ward Jacobson, Dale Johnson, and Mark Taylor for more than 30 years on the KFOR Morning Show.
Starting in 1992 she would follow the morning show each morning with her own one-hour talk show, Problems & Solutions. From that, Cathy has written five Problems & Solutions hint books and 27 cookbooks using submissions from her listeners. Her show was syndicated in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota on other Three Eagles sister stations. After leaving the morning show in 2013, Cathy continued on-air with her talk show.
Cathy received the Marconi Award from the National Association of Broadcasters in 2002. She and her co-host Ward Jacobson both received Marconis in 2005. Cathy was in the Top 5 Marconi finalists for Small Market Personality of the Year in 2010. Her Problems & Solutions show has received top awards from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association, and the Associated Press.
Cathy has given her time to many non-profits in the role of promotion, fundraising, emceeing, and piano playing.
