Dave Thorell

CLASS OF 2016

Dave Thorell of Loomis spent his entire career in broadcasting. Of the 47 years of his Nebraska radio work, 42 were on the air as a personality at KRVN in Lexington. He was a friend and trusted source of news and information for ranchers and farmers across Nebraska and much of Kansas.

Thorell started as a student broadcaster for the Kearney State College campus station KOVF. After graduation in 1969, he worked at KUVR Holdrege until moving to KRVN in 1974.

Heavy on humor, Dave Thorell’s program was a favorite with KRVN listeners. Farmers and ranchers in the Midwest considered Dave as much a part of their daily routine as milking the cows and tending to the crops.

Outside of his work on KRVN Dave made hundreds of speeches in rural communities and has been recognized as an advocate for agriculture, adoption, cancer research, and many other worthy causes. He also enjoyed mentoring the new generation of KRVN announcers.

Dave retired in September 2016. but continues to do public speaking events for churches and organizations in Nebraska and surrounding states.
