Larry Rice was the owner and general manager of KBRB AM & FM in Ainsworthf or over 40 years.
Rice came to Nebraska from Missouri. His ambition was to become a high school coach, but a part-time radio job at KNIM Marysville changed his course to broadcasting. He moved to full-time, then to KFEQ St. Joseph in 1959 but it was a brief stay. He and his former boss at KNIM, Gil Poese, became partners in the ownership and operation of KBRX in O’Neill, Nebraska for the next ten years.
In 1968, Larry founded KBRB Ainsworth. Besides being owner, president, and general manager, Rice hosted the morning show and performed sportscasting duties for the station. He constructed and signed on KBRB FM in 1982, all while retaining his interest in KBRX O Neill.
Larry believed a broadcast license is “a license to serve.” His community of Ainsworth honored him as Businessman of the Year for his community service.
Rice was a longtime board member of the Nebraska Broadcasters Association and served as president in 1990.
He sold his Ainsworth stations in 2009 for over a half-million dollars.
