CLASS OF 2005
Ulysses Carlini entered television during its early years in 1953, beginning his career in the production department of WEHT-TV Henderson, Kentucky. His job entailed everything: announcing, writing, sales and production. He even hosted a kid’s program on Saturday mornings.
In 1959 he moved to Evansville, Indiana to WTVW-TV as Program Director where he created another children’s program.
Carlini became a Nebraskan in 1968 moving to North Platte’s KNOP-TV as Vice President and General Manager. From there through his vision, hard work, and dedication he took the fledging, struggling television station and propelled it into a prominent, respected, and trusted source for entertainment, news, and information.
Mr. Carlini was instrumental in obtaining a license for a second station in North Platte, KIIT-TV, a low-power VHF station signing on in 1995. Two years later his North Platte Television Inc. purchased KHAS-TV in Hastings and made valuable contributions to the reorganization of what is now Greater Nebraska Television, Inc.
Besides having a long history of community involvement and leadership in North Platte, Mr. Carlini served as a board member of the Nebraska Broadcasters Association during the 1970s.
Mr. Carlini passed away on August 24, 2014.
